The revised online training programme, launched at the Financial Reform for Economic Development in Asia Public Sector Forum in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, aims to help understanding and applying IPSAS, in contect to own requirements. The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) supports IPSAS from the beginning and contributed to the development of the new training programme. >>

While previous Public Finance Management (PFM) reforms concentrated mainly on strengthening capacities and systems in ministries of finance, there is a need of a more holistic approach that considers all stakeholders that promoting accountability and transparency of the budget. The GIZ Sector Program on Good Financial Governance and the International Budget Partnership (IBP) have developed a discussion paper that reflects the outcome from a joint research project aimed at gaining a better understanding of the role different accountability actors play in promoting budget transparency and accountability. >>

27 students from the first intake of the Executive Master’s in Taxation (EMT) programme travelled to Pretoria to present and discuss their transfer projects and attend the official graduation ceremony. The Master programme, jointly developed by the GIZ Good Financial Governance in Africa programme, the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF) and the Berlin School of Economics and Law (BSEL) aims to enhance the capacity of African tax administrations in effectively undertaking their responsibilities. >>

OECD highlights importance of rising tax revenues for economic development in Africa

The Revenue Statistics in Africa report, jointly produced by the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF), the African Union Commission (AUC) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), found that in all eight analysed countries, "tax revenues in African countries are rising as a proportion of national incomes". Higher tax revenues are important for sustainable economic development of African countries. >>

GIZ Facilitates International Fact-Finding Mission on Public Finances

Despite political and economic improvements that have transformed Vietnam from one of the poorest countries in the world to a lower middle income country, further support in strengthening the institutional and technical capacities to manage public finances remains important. South Africa has been identified as a preferred destination for an international fact-finding mission for Vietnamese budget experts, due to its current international good practice in public financial management. The objective of the mission was to learn about revenue forecasting, medium-term financial planning, output-based-budgeting as well as budget disclosure and transparency. >>
